Running Injuries
Hints
Running injuries occur for a multitude of reasons. Are your running shoes excessively worn? Did you increase your mileage too quickly? Are you stretching enough?
The good news is most are relatively easy to overcome and are rarely running-career ending. If you are nursing a running related injury, you might find some solutions within the following list:
Plantar Fasciitis: Does your heel or arch hurt when getting out of bed or after having been seated for a long period of time? Does the discomfort seem to ease up after moving around for a few minutes? Plantar Fasciitis may be the diagnosis. Taping, off-the-shelf arch supports or custom made orthotics may get you on the road to recovery.
IT Band Syndrome: Usually caused by either a lack of flexibility or instability in the foot strike, lliotibial Band Syndrome is characterized by pain on the outside of the knee that steadily increases as your run or walk progresses.
Chondromalacia: Chondromalacia, often called runner's knee, is commonly caused by patella tracking issues and is frequently treated by using additional arch support and physical therapy.
Achilles Tendonitis: Characterized by pain in the back of the heel, Achilles tendonitis, while simple to treat, is often slow to heal.
Shin Splints: The term "shin splints" refers to any of a number of injuries that cause pain along either side of the tibia in the lower leg.
