To educate and prepare girls for a life time of self-respect and healthy living.
Our Vision: Girls on the Run of Maricopa and Pinal Counties is an organization that is dedicated to the community prevention of risk behaviors of teenage girls by providing life-changing educational/running programs to pre-teen girls. We envision our organization being recognized as a successful approach to reducing the high incidences of pregnancy, obesity, drug use and school drop outs of teenage girls as well as being instrumental in fostering the growth of healthy, confident women throughout the state of Arizona. We aim to promote an environment that allows girls and women to reach their full potential and aim to transform the way girls and women perceive themselves and their place in society.
Objectives: The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.
The Program: Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors.
The Girls on the Run need new or gently worn women’s and children’s running shoes of all sizes. If you have women’s running shoes that never quite made it into your rotation or still have a lot of quality miles left, bring them into Runner’s Den and receive $10 off your next shoe purchase and 20% off any clothing purchase.
